That relationship is as individual as you are, and we believe death services should reflect that. Whatever your rituals, ceremonies, and grieving processes look like, we want to help you make them happen.

About Our Founder.
Born and raised in San Antonio, TX, Maura began to shift her career towards death rights advocacy in 2020. She now works as a death rights advocate and mortuary scientist-in-training. Her work is focused on envisioning a future where our death and grief practices can be individually- and community-focused, radically accepting, environmentally-friendly, and divested from capitalist forces.
While working at the Cibolo Center for Conservation, an environmental nonprofit, Maura began brainstorming ways to connect children to nature in their own neighborhoods after COVID shut down schools. She became interested in the concept of cemeteries as accessible green space.
Death advocacy brings together her passion for education, environmental conservation, and community action, uniting her varied experience in an array of different fields.
Maura taught English as a foreign language in Prague, Indonesia, Cambodia and Peru and has worked on farms all over the world, racking up over 1,000 volunteer hours for Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms in Ecuador, Colorado, California and Oregon.
After moving back to the United States in 2016, Maura worked as a field guide for a Wilderness Therapy organization in Oregon. While physically demanding and emotionally challenging, this experience taught Maura how to facilitate a therapeutic environment and put clients' needs before her own with unconditional positive regard.
At the Cibolo, Maura honed her passion for sustainable land stewardship, regenerative farming practices, and nature-based education. Maura is currently seeking licensure as a Funeral Director & Embalmer in order to expand the range of services that Bespoke Death provides and further tailor death care services in San Antonio, TX to your needs.
